We are all aware that Goa is currently is one of the most severely affected states due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, with a record high positivity rate of 51.4%.
Their need for supplies to assist recoveries and prevent deaths are always changing: be it oxygen tanks, oximeters, other medical supplies (such as bedpans), besides other COVID-related help. Currently there is a need for spirometers (pictured), which are very important for patients to regain their lung function and get off oxygen, but are not supplied by the hospitals, and the poor cannot afford them. In some families both parents are dying leaving orphaned children with no one to willing to care for them. Basically, all relief is COVID-related and medical and food are interrelated.
The Edmonton Goan Association Committee has contacted several volunteers in Goa who are working tirelessly around the clock procuring and distributing supplies.
We have decided to collect funds to be sent directly to the volunteer run group COVID Care Goa (www.covidcaregoa.in) These volunteers consult directly with the doctors of GMC (Goa Medical College) and other hospitals to assess the immediate needs to be funded, as well as provide information regarding vaccine booking and various relief services available to the people of Goa.
We have set a fundraising target of CAD 2,000, but we are counting on the generosity of our members.
We appeal to you to make a donation of any amount; be it $5, $50, $100, $500, every bit helps! Please make your donations by email money transfer to egacommittee@gmail.com by Friday, May 21 to allow funds to reach Goa in a timely manner. If you are unable to EMT but would like to donate please do not hesitate to contact us ASAP.
Thank you for your generosity. We hope you are continuing to stay safe and are looking forward to the day when we can meet again in person.
